Saxmad Billy - born William Burton - sometimes referred to as Will Bedall -  was born during the Second World War in Scarisbrick Road, in a district of Liverpool called Norris Green, on the [5th January 1940]. His mother, Kitty, worked as [occupation] and his dad [name] was a/n [occupation]. He had one sister called [name] and two brothers called [name] and [name]. Bill was the baby of the family… On one occasion [little anecdote] in your uneventful childhood.

Bill’s first school was [school name] in [location] were he had his first taste of education. After leaving the infants school at the age of [age] he went on to junior school at [school name] in the district of [location]. On one occasion [something interesting happened].

Bill left [last school] to begin his secondary education at St.
St Edward's College , Sandfield Park, Liverpool. Although he began music lessons he was thrown out with a couple of mates and made to study extra maths as a punishment. The two mates in question were Joe Fegan, later to become a successful song/music writer, and Barry Moore, now a Concert Orchestra violinist. He doesn’t know what became of the other people in his music group who were retained but always wonders whether or not any of them became a musician.

On leaving school Bill decided to take music lessons and with that in mind he bought a clarinet. He bought it privately, without getting advice of somebody who knew about clarinets, which was a big mistake as he had difficulty finding somebody to teach him on that instrument. He eventually went along to Frank Hessey’s, a well known haunt of sixties Merseybeat musicians, and bought his first ‘Real Clarinet’. When he started taking lessons in [date] he did so with a man called George Birchall, for a couple of years. – “He was a great musician and an excellent teacher, but unfortunately he passé away during the period Bill was studying with him.
